2/20/03 Acme-McCrary and Sapona Host Celebrity Benefit Tournament
Asheboro - Another installment of the RCS Celebrity Golf Classic, a major fundraiser for Regional Consolidated Services (RCS) of Asheboro, is scheduled for the Asheboro Country Club, Friday, May 9. The 11th annual captain's choice tournament, one of the spring highlights on the Randolph County golf calendar, will be played for a fourth year under the corporate sponsorship of the Acme-McCrary/Sapona Foundation. Last May, 15 of North Carolina's well-known figures in and around sports ere part of a field which totalled 132 amateurs and raised nearly $6,500 for the private, non-profit human service agency's operating fund. This year, tournament planners are limiting the number of contestants to 124 to ease traffic on the course. Last year, a four-man team captained by veteran Greensboro amateur and Hall-of-Famer Bill Harvey won the championship with a 14-under-par 57 over the par 71 layout. Rounding out Harvey's group were John Bloxsom, Steve Guy and Chris Nall. Guest celebrities already committed to the field for May 9 include: Wake Forest legendary golf coach Jesse Haddock who returns as honorary chairman; Ron Bennett, WKXR sportscaster; former North Carolina lieutenant governor Pat Taylor; retired assistant Atlantic coast Conference commissioner Marvin (Skeeter) Francis; retired New York Times golf writer Gordon White; and Nat Walker, retired RJR executive who helped run the Vantage and RJR Championships at Tanglewood. The entry fee is $65 per contestant, covering greens fees, cart, favors packet and luncheon. Entry blanks will be available in early March. Add Penfield is tournament director and may be reached at 629-5141.

Sapona Selects Made2Manage ERP Software
4/1/02

Sapona Manufacturing, a textile yarn maker based in Cedar Falls, NC, is announcing the implementation of Made2Manage Systems Microsoft Windows and Microsoft SQL based ERP software as of April, 2002. Dean Lail, President of Sapona states "Information systems are critical to providing customers what they need when they need it. We selected the new software because of various advantages over our aging legacy AS/400 system. The main advantage being better coordination between all users with other Microsoft applications via networked PC's. The system also provides advanced material requirements planning, purchasing, integrated accounting, and forecasting features that previously were not available. Also, consolidating to one hardware environment improves everyone's access to actionable information on line." Finally, Sapona selected the new software because of the flexibility designed into the system for user customization, while still maintaining the advances of a regularly updated software package with a large installed base of users. As the implementation progresses, Sapona will be able to offer customers and remote sales offices direct access to database information via the internet. "We already have an excellent business process that guarantee inventory accuracy and excellent customer service.
