  1. INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this procedure is to define the general workmanship requirements for all assembly wound raw yarns. These may include combinations of nylon and polyester, or other synthetic yarns. These requirements are referenced by individual product specifications or procedures, which may also note exceptions and certain physical properties. Uncontrolled copy.

  2. SPECIFICATION

    1. Dirt/Grease– No soiling or grease spots allowed. It is acceptable if the spots can be cleaned off. For dirt on the outside surface – air strip yarn to waste. For dirt on the ends – clean with sprayer. If dirt does not come off, reject to off grade.
    2. Wound in waste – None allowed. Strip if possible to correct. Otherwise reject to rewind.
    3. Damaged/bumped – None allowed. Strip if possible to correct. Otherwise reject to rewind.
    4. F oil contamination – Dry or regular oil yarn must not be contaminated with F Oil when viewed under a packing table black light, unless very slight (not immediately visible). Strip to clean if possible. Otherwise reject to rewind.
    5. Broken Filaments- 10 per end max allowable for standard package.
    6. Texture color/appearance – Packages should have consistent appearance. Dull, bright, dye color, etc. per limit samples.
    7. Crossed Ends- Nose end crosses are allowed, unless they appear matted or too numerous to count. Up to two 1 inch crosses on the tail end are allowed or crosses < ¼" from the tube are allowed. If crossed ends cannot be easily corrected by realigning yarn, reject to rewind.
    8. Loops/Kinks/Slubs – Excessive large loops not allowed. None allowed protruding greater than 1/16". No kinks or slubs allowed.
    9. Proper Wind- No patterns or bands. No high or falling off edges. No excessive hard/soft packages. No loose wind, strip off outside loose yarn.
    10. Tube Defects- No crushed, nicked, or cut tubes, especially on the nose end.
    11. Ridges/Grooves- No ridges or grooves > 1/8 inch high or deep.
    12. Air tacks (entanglement) – Hand check with a light tug 3-4 times per package. Minimum 12 tacks per foot for regular air and no more than 1 section allowed with no air tack for over 6". Low air should have some evidence of air tacks.
    13. Proper Assembly – Also hand check with a light tug. Check that all ends are present. Visually check appearance of each end, and package for possible incorrect yarn. Submit suspect package to QC lab for type testing.
    14. Latching – Filaments or plies that separate when winding off package are not allowed.
    15. No tail – One no-tail per layer is allowed. If excess no tail packages are found then reject to rewind. The minimum tail length is 1 wrap around the tube.
    16. Multiple tails - If there are multiple tails, then correct if possible. Otherwise reject to rewind.
    17. Tail clearance – tail should be clear of package at least 1/8 inch.
    18.
    19. Oversize or Small package - Check suspect packages with appropriate gage or diameter tape.

Yarn package size Max Diameter Min Diameter (inches)

      7" Sapona Max: 7.75 Min: 6

      8" Yarn Max: 8.5 Min: 6

Parallel Yarn Max: 9.5 Min: 6

      None under 6 inches.

    20. Packaging - Yarn packages are bagged with high density vented poly bags, wrapped in single wall corrugate, rubber banded and packed into box, tail end down, so there is as little movement as possible. Packages are not forced into the box. Box goes on conveyor to scale open with flaps taped down and inspector card GF007 placed in one of the tubes on top. The proper box is determined as follows or as directed by supervisor:

        11.4" tube Sapona #211 box, #1 pad

Lots ending with P Plain box #211

All boxes are 350 psi corrugated and may be reused or recycled.

All box are taped on bottom with 72mm, clear acrylic tape, strapped shut with plastic straps.

    21. Weighing – Yarn is weighed per procedure COVSOP0077 as is with no allowance for moisture regain or finish. The case is weighed to determine gross weight. The net weight is calculated based on number of tubes and standard tare weight of all packaging materials.

    22. Case Labeling – Cases are labeled and individually numbered with computer transfer printed, stick on, three part label SHIPF014. In addition, each case has tube label SHIPF015 and shipping label SHIPF019. Labels have an important warning that if the Lot number on the container differs from previous shipments, keep separate unless your test prove this unnecessary. Cases with red dot are rewinds and are kept segregated for non critical applications.

      Guarantee/Disclaimers

    23. Sapona does not guarantee the dyeability of raw yarn products in multi-feed circular knit, warp knit or woven fabric applications. Sapona only guarantees that the yarns are properly assembled. It is up to the customer to determine the suitability of these yarns in non-hosiery applications.

    24. Sapona does not guarantee mid-denier yarns dyed with rate sensitive acid dyes. Critical shades and shades with high wet fastness are likely to exhibit dye rate sensitivities. Rate sensitive dyes also include direct or neutral dyeing and premetallized classes.
    25. Yarn should not be more than 2 years old for critical applications.
